Congressional Quarterly is just calling it an “interactive game” but, who knows, maybe it would have some influence. Round 1 choices (Vilsack vs. Kerry) must be made between June 5 and June 10. Round 2 is June 11 to June 16.

From Los Angeles Times:

“It does appear to be pretty clear that Senator Obama is going to be the nominee,” said Tom Vilsack, the former Iowa governor and a national co-chairman of Clinton’s campaign. “After Tuesday’s contests, she needs to acknowledge that he’s going to be the nominee and quickly get behind him.”

But Clinton herself on Sunday argued a case for staying in the race and even trying to capture Obama’s own delegates. …

From MSNBC – Hardball:

MATTHEWS: Daughter of former governor of Ohio, John Gilligan. She‘s born to the role. What do you think? Now that we‘re all doing the hot shot stuff, Jeanne, who do you think it‘s going to be, ignoring my feeble list?

CUMMINGS: My dream picks or fantasy picks are Tom Vilsack of Iowa, win the state, bring the governor in, white guy that can talk to the working class. He‘s also a Clinton supporter, so that‘s another way to, you know, reach out to the other side of the party. I‘d throw Ed Rendell into that same category.

MATTHEWS: OK, I think Obama/Vilsack is a hell of a bumper sticker.

It seems discordant to me. …

From Chicago Sun-Times Lynn Sweet blog:

Several figures who backed Clinton from key swing states could fill the governing hole in Obama’s resume and build a bridge to the Clinton supporters. They are Iowa Gov. TOM VILSACK, Ohio Gov. TED STRICKLAND and Indiana Sen. EVAN BAYH, a former governor. …

From today’s Wall Street Journal:

Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack organized and attended receptions around the country for Iowa college grads who moved away. The reach of these programs is limited. But states and companies that participate say they are worth the modest investment, and are often cheaper than hiring a headhunter. States figure it is a lot easier to persuade former residents to come home than it is to get strangers to move to a place they have never been to. Iowa officials say efforts to lure former residents have brought about 2,200 of them back to the state. …

Here is a link to today’s Wall Street Journal article.

“If she’s working for you, it doesn’t mean you’re going to win. But regardless of the odds at the beginning, you’ll be in the game,” says former Gov. Tom Vilsack, who credits Ms. Vilmain for his 1998 and 2002 victories in gubernatorial elections. Mr. Vilsack enlisted her last year for his own short-lived presidential campaign. Soon after it ended, Sen. Clinton signed them both up. …

[S]he still keeps track of birthdays. Thursday was Mr. Vilsack’s. It also was one of the darkest days for the campaign: a top Clinton official in New Hampshire resigned after he was quoted questioning Mr. Obama’s electability given his acknowledged cocaine use as a young man. Even as Ms. Vilmain was privately fretting about the potential damage, she had a birthday cake and gifts of political books spirited aboard the Clintons’ plane for Mr. Vilsack.
