From Grand Forks Herald:
The point is to reassure residents of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, about what lies ahead. It’s true that flood recovery is “a long, tough road,” as Cedar Rapids officials learned and learned again during their visit here last week, a story in the Cedar Rapids Gazette reported. …
Cedar Rapids’ physical infrastructure may be in tough shape, but its social infrastructure likely is intact. And rebuilding the former is a lot more realistic and “doable” than is overhauling the latter. …

I don’t see a bunch of people running around waving guns at helicopters. I don’t see a bunch of people shooting cops. I don’t see a bunch of people raping people on the street. …
From Black Agenda Report:
New Orleans residents were about four times as likely as their Iowa counterparts not to have access to a vehicle that could facilitate their escape. …
[P]utting aside the cash welfare received by Iowans, which as noted above was actually more, per household, than that received by New Orleanians, crop subsidies indicate that Iowans were and are more government dependent than the residents of New Orleans, no matter what the racist and classist perceptions of the general public may be. …
