The Web site www.SurFire2008.org was created to help communication between residents after lightning strikes June 21 caused a pair of wildfires - the Gallery and the Basin Fires - now known as the Basin Complex, which consumed 26,876 acres and remained 3 percent contained as of late Friday.
The site is one of several tools used to give praise, create alerts or request help. …
[Lisa] Goettel started the Web site after she found a similar site in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after floods hit where her family lives in mid-June. She sent a note to the site’s creator and asked to borrow the code to create something for Big Sur’s residents. …
