St. Luke’s lawsuit over alleged moisture damage March 22, 2008

Recently moved to federal court system. From U.S. Courts - Northern District of Iowa:

After completion of construction of the Surgery Center [Ambulatory Surgical Center], the ceiling of the Parking Area was damaged by moisture and began to crumble and fall to the Parking Area.  

Investigation revealed that moisture had accumulated above the ceiling of the Parking Area, damaging the ceiling.  

St. Luke’s contacted Boulder Associates in late 2005 to inform Boulder Associates of the moisture and resulting damage. To fix the immediate damage and to prevent future damage to the ceiling of the Parking Area, St. Luke’s was required to replace the insulation and install tiles made of waterproof material installed by Jelinek Olmstead Construction, Inc. at a total cost of $179,698.00…

Somebody is always trying to show up Jason Bohannon. …

His name is dirt in Iowa even though Bohannon was a prep superstar at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, Iowa, and his dad, Gordy, was a star quarterback for Hayden Fry and the Hawkeyes.

The hatred Iowans have for Bohannon for spurning former coach Steve Alford and the Hawkeyes goes beyond the intense booing and sneering aimed at his direction when the Badgers play at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. They even boo his younger brothers Zach and Matt, both of whom played for Linn-Mar this year.

“People will boo them for me going to Wisconsin. Stuff like that,” shrugged Bohannon. …

Former University of Iowa provost, Texas Tech president a finalist for Portland State presidency March 22, 2008

Texas Tech’s departing president Jon Whitmore is one of three finalists for the Portland State University presidency, Oregon University System officials announced on Thursday.

Whitmore, who did not return phone calls Friday, resigned as the president of Tech on Feb. 1. He agreed to lead the university until 2009 or until his replacement is hired.  …

He came to Tech from the University of Texas, where he was the dean of the College of Fine Arts for five years.

He resigned less than two months after regional accreditors put Tech on probation for failing to prove student competency in a report. He has repeatedly said his resignation was not tied to the probation.

In his resignation letter, he told Tech Chancellor Kent Hance new presidential leadership was needed to carry out the university’s goal of 40,000 students by 2020. …
