From Chicago Tribune:

Indiana is hoping to unveil its new basketball coach before the Final Four kicks off Saturday in San Antonio, according to a report on ESPN.com. The Web site also reported that Hoosiers athletic director Rick Greenspan is expected to be on the road this weekend to begin interviewing candidates.

According to another site, flightaware.com, a plane left Bloomington’s airport Saturday night for Albuquerque, where Hoosiers icon Steve Alford currently works as the head coach of New Mexico. …

Blog posts University of Iowa Law Dean’s e-mail about USN&WR rankings; U. review dubbed ‘Apollo Project’ March 30, 2008

From Abovethelaw.com:

As we reported earlier this week, the latest U.S. News & World Report law school rankings are out. And some schools are flipping out over their falling rankings. A tipster at the University of Iowa College of Law writes:

[B]elow is an email the Iowa law students received yesterday from Dean Jones about the new US News & World Report rankings. Apparently our dean is setting up small group meetings with the students. No faculty. No other administration. Methinks this may be somewhat of a divide and conquer strategy. These meetings may be in part a result of the newly formed Facebook group “Stop the Bleeding at Iowa Law.”My favorite part, though, is that the “faculty” have dubbed their concern about the rankings “Project Apollo.” Well, if they’re not going to do anything about it, at least they can come up with a secret, clever code name, so it looks in hindsight like they’ve been planning D-Day part 2. Bravo profs and administration, you’ve really impressed me this time.

E-mail excerpt:

Please be assured that the law school administration has not been asleep at the switch on this issue. Indeed, we have been studying the US News rankings at a very high level over the past year. Hundreds of hours of sophisticated thought by alumni, faculty and staff have gone into this project, informally dubbed the Apollo Project. We have been considering ways of bringing new resources to the law school that will enhance our rankings and – more importantly – substantively strengthen the institution. …

From The Chosun Ilbo (South Korea):

The adoptions of the four children were arranged by Holt Children’s Services. An official with Holt said the four children were born to different unmarried mothers.

According to Holt, Ethan, Seth and Eleanor were abandoned by their mothers as soon as they were born. Carrying their one-week-old children, the three unwed mothers visited Holt and asked that their babies be adopted overseas.

Mira was three months old when her birth mother visited Holt. “That means Mira’s birth mother must have agonized for three months about whether she should raise Mira alone or abandon her for adoption,” the Holt official said.

The children were adopted by the Sueppels in different years — Ethan in 1998, Seth in 1999, Mira in 2002, and Eleanor in 2005. …

An interesting adoption-related post with valuable links and quotes here: ‘Forever Family’ six feet under.

The couple had adopted four children from South Korea; Ethan, 10, Seth, 7, Mira, 5, and Eleanor, 3 via Holt international (”…dedicated to carrying out God’s plan for every child to have a permanent, loving family”) which says it will only pass along the information to the children’s original mothers if they ask (see S Korean adoption agency saw no problem with American parents “our agency doesn’t reach out first. Only if they contact us, we will inform them what happened,” Hong said, adding that no phone calls were received so far.”) …

From Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board, filed today:

Considering all the relevant facts and circumstances, we conclude [Brandon] Adams should be indefinitely suspended from the practice of law with no possibility of reinstatement for four months. Adams has not only established himself in his relatively short professional career as a lawyer who lacks diligence and professionalism in dealing with client matters, but he has also shown himself to be a lawyer who is willing to misrepresent the truth in an effort to hide his neglect and inattention. His actions and conduct have inflicted harm on his clients and the profession as a whole.

We are sympathetic to the struggles Adams has endured with migraine headaches and depression. …

VI. Conclusion.

We suspend Adams license to practice law with no possibility of reinstatement for a period not less than four months from the date of the filing of this opinion. …

Record companies suing 20 University of Iowa Internet users accused of file sharing March 27, 2008

From U.S. District Court – Southern District of Iowa:

… The true names and capacities of Defendants are unknown to Plaintiffs at this time. Each Defendant is known to Plaintiffs only by the Internet Protocol (“IP”) address assigned to that Defendant by his or her ISP on the date and time of that Defendant’s infringing activity. See Exhibit A. Plaintiffs believe that information obtained in discovery will lead to the identification of each Defendant’s true name.

21. Although Plaintiffs do not know the true names of Defendants, each Defendant is alleged to have committed violations of the same law (e.g., copyright law), by committing the same acts (e.g., the downloading and distribution of copyrighted sound recordings owned by Plaintiffs), and by using the same means (e.g., a file-sharing network) that each Defendant accessed via the same ISP. …

Reviewing the 20 Internet Protocol addresses in “Exhibit A” (all between 128.255.0.0 and 128.255.255.255) the Internet Service Provider apparently was the University of Iowa. The document claims this happened between October and December of 2007.
