The footballs get their start on the backs of cows taken from feedlots in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. Riegle said he preferred young, lean steers over fat dairy cows because their leather does not stretch as much. By the time they arrive in Ada, the cowhides have been dyed brown and stamped with the familiar football stubble. …

CBS Reports, a national news program produced by CBS News, will feature the deployment of the Iowa Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry on Sunday, February 3, in “Fathers, Sons, and Brothers.” The one-hour special will air at 6 p.m. Iowa time on CBS (check your local television listing for the local CBS affiliate).
Originally created by CBS 60 Minutes and reported by correspondent Scott Pelley, “Fathers, Sons, and Brothers” follows the deployment of the Soldiers to Iraq and the lives of their families back home in Iowa from the initial alert until the unit’s return to Iowa, nearly 24 months total. The original story aired on CBS 60 Minutes during the May 27, 2007 broadcast. The new version which will air on Feb. 3 will include the unit’s homecoming in Iowa on July 25, 2007, which occurred nearly two months after the initial program’s broadcast. …
