Given his unassuming glasses and quiet demeanor, you’d never guess that Kirk was an instrumental force in underground American pop music. He released rare indie-pop gems on The Bus Stop Label, which he founded, worked at Parasol Records, and put up Mousetrap Mailorder, a mail-order shop.
… Initially, Kirk released only 7-inch singles on vinyl. After a few years, he started releasing EPs, then full-length albums. Barring a period of inactivity from 1999 to 2002, Kirk has released dozens of sets on his label since it started in 1987. …
From Iowa City, Iowa, Kirk moved around the Midwest and the East Coast before coming to Milwaukee seven years ago. “It’s close to home, I like the people, I have good friends, and there’s a good music scene.” …
