SHERIDAN — A judge has sentenced a Sheridan man to serve between five to 10 years in prison on a conviction of vehicular homicide.

District Judge John Fenn on Thursday sentenced Russell Lloyd DeSantis, 35. Authorities say DeSantis was drunk when he drove head on into a motorcycle driven by John A. Lindgren of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Brian Kirk, originally from Iowa City, is featured in Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

By my estimate, he has 12,600 CDs, 3,000 records and 4,860 singles - just in his living room.

Given his unassuming glasses and quiet demeanor, you’d never guess that Kirk was an instrumental force in underground American pop music. He released rare indie-pop gems on The Bus Stop Label, which he founded, worked at Parasol Records, and put up Mousetrap Mailorder, a mail-order shop.

… Initially, Kirk released only 7-inch singles on vinyl. After a few years, he started releasing EPs, then full-length albums. Barring a period of inactivity from 1999 to 2002, Kirk has released dozens of sets on his label since it started in 1987. …

From Iowa City, Iowa, Kirk moved around the Midwest and the East Coast before coming to Milwaukee seven years ago. “It’s close to home, I like the people, I have good friends, and there’s a good music scene.” …

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller, 24, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Jan. 25 in Barikowt, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered small arms fire while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
